CHICAGO, Dec. 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LKQ Corporation (Nasdaq:LKQ) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell the OEM glass manufacturing business of its Pittsburgh Glass Works subsidiary (“PGW”) to a subsidiary of Vitro S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:VITROA), a leading glass manufacturer based in Mexico. The sale price is $310 million, subject to potential post-closing purchase price adjustments. Pittsburgh Glass Works, Started out in 1883. PPG had been designing, improving and manufacturing automotive windshields since they were invented and the tradition of innovation and quality. PPG's global presence has enabled them to build a history of supplying quality automotive glass and for both factory OEM and replacement OEM aftermarket auto glass parts such as windshields, door glasses, vent glasses, quarter glasses and rear windshield windows to the top car companies in the world. In August of 2008, PPG sold the majority stake in its auto glass business to a New York private equity group called Kohlberg & Co. LLC. PPG Industries Inc. automotive glass business is now called PGW, Pittsburgh Glass Works. On 5/23/09 PPG Industries Inc.'s spin-off Pittsburgh Glass Works LLC entered into a partnership with Daimler AG to supply automotive glass to the German vehicle manufacturer. Under the new, multi-year contract, Pittsburgh Glass Works will be the primary windshield, door and rear windows' supplier for Mercedes-Benz cars and sport utility vehicles. Pittsburgh Glass Works, PPG's former Automotive Glass unit, was spun off and 60 percent of the company is now owned by affiliates of Kohlberg & Co. and 40 percent is still owned by PPG. Many of PGW’s ARG aftermarket products are made in China and Mexico.

Pilkington < LOF Automotive Glass Replacement provides OEM quality for both factory OEM and replacement OEM aftermarket auto glass products such as windshields, door glasses, vent glasses, quarter glasses and rear windshield back glasses to auto glass replacement professionals throughout the United States and has markets extending into Canada and Mexico. Safelite Glass Corperation is an OEE Aftermarket windshield manufacture. They are currently owned by Belron a very large company whose roots began in South Africa and have now spread across the world. Belron trades under 15 different brands including Carglass, Autoglass and now Safelite. The Fuyao Group Limited is the wholly owned subsidiary of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co. Ltd and are registered in Hong Kong. It is the official and sole overseas representative and marketing and sales platform for Fuyao automotive safety glass for replacement used in vehicles worldwide, including the safety glass for light vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, bus, coaches and off road vehicles. The Fuyao Group claims that they maintain the same standards to quality suppliers and materials, including float glass and inter layers.
